"The book was tormenting me, and I stayed up much too late reading!!"
Flashback to 1981: A nostalgic journey of love, loss, and self-discovery 📺
Meet Eve Hofmann, a young girl coming of age under difficult circumstances. With a distant mother and dying father, she finds solace in her friendships with Silas Alder and Valerie Pleasant - or so she thinks.
A chance encounter on a snowy porch sets off a chain reaction of events that changes everything for Eve and Silas, two souls bound by fate but destined to be apart.
Readers rave about this heartwarming yet suspenseful tale:
"A delightful character... I just wanted others to do right by her."
"Couldn't put it down!"
"A breath of fresh air."
As Eve navigates adolescence, first love blossoms between her and Silas. Years later, their paths cross again when he's hired to renovate an inherited schoolhouse into her home. Embers of passion reignite, but danger lurks nearby.
Valerie returns after years apart, stirring up memories and putting Eve on edge once more...
Gideon’s eyes were fixed on the corner of the coffee shop. “Don’t look now, Eve, but did you kiss a girl and like it?”
My eyes automatically followed his to see Valerie sitting on a stuffed chair in the opposite corner, watching us.
I turned back around. “You know when someone says not to do something, it’s like a requirement to do it anyway.”
“She’s on her way over here,” Dawn said through her teeth.
Suddenly, I recalled spilling my guts to Valerie about Clint Hammond. A reason, perhaps the best, why I didn’t drink.
“Hi guys.” Valerie approached with a smile.
Dawn squinted up at her. “Valerie Pleasant?”
“Wait, you know each other?” Gideon handed Dawn a tall drink.
“I’m excited to stay at the schoolhouse,” Valerie gushed. “I don’t know if I mentioned how sorry I am about your dad not being…your dad.”
Seriously? “It’s okay.”
She glanced at Dawn. “At least you got a place to live out of the deal.”
“Right.”
“Is six an okay time to come by with the rest of my stuff?”
“Sure.”
Valerie gave a wry smile. “I won’t keep you. I wanted to say hi. I can’t thank you enough. You are a lifesaver.”
As soon as she left, Dawn pounced. “Do my ears deceive me? Valerie Pleasant? Is she moving in with you?”
I cringed at how it sounded. How did it sound? Like I made a whopper of a mistake. “How do I get myself into these things?”
Gideon sipped his coffee. “I don’t know, how do you?”
“You told her about Clint Hammond?” Dawn asked. “I mean, you can tell whoever you want.”
“It’s a temporary deal. She’s moving to Texas at the end of the month.”
Get ready for a thrilling ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
