I welcomed the heat, washed coffee cups, and put them away while Grady got ready for church. When he returned to the kitchen, I headed for the shower.

Now at the breakfast table across from me, Grady was dressed in a blue shirt, matching tie, and gray slacks.

“No words,” he muttered.

I smoothed my hair with a flat hand. “I suppose you wanted a wife that’s not silly.”

“Too late to worry about that now.” He took a sip of coffee.

“So much for having no words,” I said.
